The scriptures remind us to love each other as brothers including those who are in prison as if we were their fellow prisoners. Bishop Peter was led to put this into practice by setting up a ministry to the workers in South Africa's prisons for whom this is a daily challenge.
Today, there are Maranatha trained Pastors in seven of the biggest prisons in South Africa, including those in the provinces of Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Durban and Western Cape.
The Pastors minister to the prison staff, supporting them pastorally and emotionally. They also teach them various skills and coach them on the importance of keeping the relationships with the inmates on the right footing. The work is delivered mainly to groups of prison staff but in some cases, this involves one to one counselling.
Please pray for this important work. The crime situation in South Africa is critical and the prisons are at breaking point. There are huge pressures on the prison system. The staff themselves are often put in difficult situations and need to be strong willed and vigilent.
